Sessions
• weekly 1 hour practice sessions from February to April
• orators learn basic elements of public speaking and are introduced to the various public speaking genres
• orators receive constructive feedback from their coach and peers on their public speaking skills.
Program Overview
SPEAK! has programs for students in preK-4 -12th grade.
WEE SPEAK! is an oratory program for pre-K4 -1st grade students who learn basic public speaking and perform a group piece at the end of the session.
In addition to learning basic public speaking skills, students in grades 2-12 practice a piece in a specific oratory genre and present it at the end of the session. The oratory categories include:
• Declamation
• Interpretation of Poetry
• Interpretation of Prose
• Dramatic Interpretation
• Demonstrated / Illustrated Talk
• Extemporaneous Speech
• Original Oratory

SPEAK! Inclement Weather Policy:
SPEAK! MD Oratory League will follow the same inclement weather closing policies as Prince George's County Public Schools. When evening activities are cancelled by PGCPS, SPEAK! will NOT have practice. There will not be a make up session for inclement weather cancellations.
